Abstract

Belowground phytomass of coarse roots of trees and shrubs of the beech ecosystem Calamintho grandiflorae-Fagetum in Mavrovo National Park is presented. Belowground phytomass is presented separately for the trees and shrubs. The greatest phytomass was recorded in the tree classes with DBH between 23 and 35 cm. Dominant shrubs according to the belowground phytomass are those with diameter at ground level larger than 1.5 cm. Coarse roots of trees and shrubs were divided into several diameter fractions. The largest phytomass is in the roots with base diameter larger than 10 cm. The stump contributes with 25% in the belowground phytomass of trees.
